Dear Colleagues:
With fires raging, the economy sliding and turkeys everywhere fleeing for
safe havens, it's hard to accept this is the season to "give thanks".
We are assaulted on all sides with bad news, yet as I watched some sound
bites of the recent fire victims while many of them reflected on their loss
they emphasized "we still have each other". And that's what we have as
well - a chapter of talented professionals who reach out every day to make
someone's life better...and that's definitely a reason to be thankful.
For those of you who attended National Philanthropy Day, I hope
you were heartened by the tremendous response of our honorees and guests;
they were truly moved by this event and the continuing stream of call and
emails this week are a clear demonstration that the spirit of giving is
alive and well in Los Angeles.
To wrap up our 40th Anniversary year, I hope you will plan to join us on
December 9th at the Cathedral as we celebrate this auspicious occasion with
a pre-luncheon reception Please invite colleagues who may have previously
been a part of GLAC or who just need an infusion of holiday spirit - this is
an opportunity to reconnect with many old friends and view pictures of just
how young everyone looked "back when".
We also need your vote for the 2009 GLAC Board. Please use the
information presented below to cast your ballot.
The Center for Nonprofit Management's November/December schedule can be

The Membership Survey Summary Report (August 2008) is now available.
AFP recently announced a dues increase to take effect April 1, 2009.
Finally, please consider being part of a committee next year; I'm not
sure the economic outlook will have improved much, but yours might by
keeping company with a group of skilled professionals. Committee information
will be posted shortly on the website.
My own thanks to each of you for your remarkable resilience; may your
Thanksgiving be joyous and memorable and chocolate find its way to your
table.
