President's Message
- December 2007
Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the entire Chapter Executive team and our Board of Directors, I
wish you all a Happy Holiday Season! We are grateful to you for your
participation and your contributions to the Chapter. I hope you will join
us for an exciting Annual Member meeting and lunch program on Tuesday, December
11th at the Cathedral Conference Center downtown.
Your attendance is extremely important as we welcome our new Board members and
officially elect and introduce our 2008 slate of officers. You will also enjoy a
wonderful speaker, Dr. Beatriz Solis, the Los Angeles Regional Senior Program
Officer for The California Endowment.
I also want to extend a special thanks to our dedicated Vice Presidents, Board
members and Chapter Administration team for their leadership and contributions
to the Chapter and to the nonprofit community.
Our programs for this past year have reflected our commitment to you, the
fundraising profession and the nonprofit community we serve. Our mission
is to advance philanthropy and to encourage excellence in fundraising by
providing education, training, networking, and professional advancement
opportunities as well as research and advocacy. We actively incorporate
our member comments and suggestions into our programs and services. More
than 2,000 nonprofit professionals and volunteers attended our annual offerings
this past year.
Thank you so much for your support. I look forward to seeing you on the
11th. Warmest wishes to you and your family for the holidays!

December 11th Luncheon To Feature Dr. Beatriz Solis
Dr. Beatriz Solis, the Los Angeles Regional Senior Program Officer for The
California Endowment, will be the featured speaker at the AFP/GLAC Luncheon
Meeting on Tuesday, December 11th. Her topic is entitled “The California
Endowment: Strategic Planning, Policy Implications, Program Funding.”
Dr. Solis will share some background on The California Endowment’s findings from
its most recent strategic planning process, including funding trends for the
Greater Los Angeles area. Additionally, she will identify project criteria
that are most likely to result in funding by The Endowment.
Representing one of the most influential foundations in health policy issues for
the Greater Los Angeles region, Dr. Solis oversees and provides direction for
the administrative and grant-making activities of the Endowment’s Los
Angeles-based program officers working in Los Angeles, Ventura, Riverside, and
San Bernardino counties. In addition, she serves as a member of the
Foundation’s statewide Community Health and Elimination of Health Disparities
Team.
Dr. Solis received her Ph.D. in Public Health from UCLA, where she worked for 10
years as the Project Manager for the Center for Health Policy Research.
Please note there will not be a morning Professional Development Seminar in December.
Announcements: Good News / Bad News
Reminder: For the past several years, GLAC has managed to hold our luncheon prices to $35
for members despite rising facility costs. However, beginning in January, 2008
the luncheon fee will increase to $50 for members and $75 for nonmembers. The price
for late registration or member "walk-ins" will be $60.
The good news is that
this price now includes both the Professional Development Seminar and the
luncheon. Two events - one (very competitive) price. The GLAC Board appreciates
your understanding of this necessary change.
Association of Fundraising Professionals
On behalf of AFP/GLAC, it is an honor to recognize and congratulate Yulanda Davis-Quarrie
as a new 2008 Director of AFP International. Yulanda has served as an officer and a director
on the AFP/GLAC Board for many years. We are delighted to congratulate Yulanda!
AFP/GLAC Chapter Treasury Campaign
As professional fundraisers we are well acquainted with the task of raising money for good causes.
We all know and love philanthropists of every variety because we depend on them to help our
organizations fulfill their missions and improve the quality of life for others and ourselves.
Now you have an opportunity to be a philanthropist yourself
and the good cause is AFP-GLAC.
Your support is critically needed to make GLAC the best it can be.
GLAC's Chapter Treasury Campaign is designated 100% for our own purposes, affording us the ability to offer more educational and scholarship opportunities right here at home.
Heartfelt thanks to those who have already contributed to this campaign. If you’ve not done so,
please do it today!
Just go to our website:
www.afpglac.org,
follow top yellow bar all the way to the right to “Donations and Sponsorships”, click on the drop-down menu at “Chapter Treasury Fund”. At the bottom of that page you can click on the “donate now” links in the amount you desire and proceed as if you were registering for an event.
It’s easy! It works! I did it! You can do it too! And you will be so appreciated!
Each member of AFP-GLAC is strongly encouraged to contribute generously.
