Dear Colleagues:

You are invited to join us for outstanding programs on November 14th and December 11th.

On November 14th, come celebrate at the National Philanthropy Day program and Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.   I want to extend our deep appreciation to National Philanthropy Day (NDP) Co-Chairs Barbara Racklin Bushnell and Wendy Santana for their leadership and to the NPD Committee members for their dedication and good work!

Tuesday, December 11th marks our Annual Member meeting and lunch program at the Cathedral Conference Center downtown.  Our 2008 slate of officers announced in our last eSlate and new Board members will be elected at this meeting.   Dr. Beatriz Solis, the Los Angeles Regional Senior Program Officer for The California Endowment, will be the featured speaker at the Luncheon Meeting. Please note there will not be a morning Professional Development Seminar in December.

We also want to remind our members of the November 30th deadline for Baumgardner Scholarship applications for the 2008 AFP Conference Master Track.  Application details and criteria are included here in this eSlate.  The AFP International Conference on Fundraising will take place in San Diego from March 30-April 2, 2008.

December 11th Luncheon Program - Dr. Beatriz Solis

Dr. Beatriz Solis, the Los Angeles Regional Senior Program Officer for The California Endowment, will be the featured speaker at the AFP/GLAC Luncheon Meeting on Tuesday, December 11th. Her topic is entitled “The California Endowment: Strategic Planning, Policy Implications, Program Funding.”

Dr. Solis will share some background on The California Endowment’s findings from its most recent strategic planning process, including funding trends for the Greater Los Angeles area. Additionally, she will identify project criteria that are most likely to result in funding by The Endowment.

Representing one of the most influential foundations in health policy issues for the Greater Los Angeles region, Dr. Solis oversees and provides direction for the administrative and grant-making activities of the Endowment’s Los Angeles-based program officers working in Los Angeles, Ventura, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. In addition, she serves as a member of the Foundation’s statewide Community Health and Elimination of Health Disparities Team.

Dr. Solis received her Ph.D. in Public Health from UCLA, where she worked for 10 years as the Project Manager for the Center for Health Policy Research.

Please note there will not be a morning Professional Development Seminar in December.

Announcements: Good News / Bad News

For the past several years, GLAC has managed to hold our luncheon prices to $35 for members despite rising facility costs.  However, beginning in January, 2008 the  luncheon fee will increase to $50 for members and $75 for nonmembers.   The price for late registration or member "walk-ins" will be $60.

The good news is that this price now includes both the Professional Development Seminar and the luncheon.  Two events - one (very competitive) price.  The GLAC Board appreciates your understanding of this necessary change.
