Our Mission:

The mission of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy is to generate the resources to fund AFP strategic initiatives that advance ethical and effective fundraising. It is though the Foundation’s annual fund campaign which includes the Every Member Campaign and Board Campaign, Chapter Treasury Campaign and Staff Campaign that we are able to fund many of these programs and initiatives. In 2003 the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy gave more than $500,000 in grants to support chapters and members and to advance the fundraising profession.

What We Did:

The Foundation provided more than $100,000 for Every Member Campaign (EMC) Chapter Partnership grants to chapters for their effort and support in making the 2002 EMC a success. The partnership grants are for chapter activities that advance ethical and effective fundraising. Additionally, $68,700 was granted for Chapter Leadership Workshops, the promotion of diversity and to encourage international growth and presence in membership and chapters.

Outreach and Education:

Outreach was a focus of funding in 2003. A $128,000 grant was awarded to increase public awareness and appreciation for philanthropy through AFP’s public affairs and communications activities. Additional funds supported AFP website redesign and the promotion of National Philanthropy Day and the Campbell & Company Awards for Excellence in Fundraising.

The Foundation committed $96,100 for education initiatives including the online AFP CFRE Review Course, publication of the AFP Ready Reference Series and improvement of the ACFRE credential program.

More than $92,000 was dedicated to the Chamberlain Scholarship Program to help an individual from each eligible AFP Chapter serving nonprofit organizations develop their knowledge and skill in fundraising by attending the 2003 International Conference on Fundraising. In addition, $37,000 supported lectures at the conference to promote philanthropy, including the J. Richard Wilson keynote address by Joan Lunden and the Maurice Gurin lecture on Philanthropy by Betrand Piccard.

Research:

The Foundation awarded $75,500 to the AFP Resource Center to increase access to information for our members and the general public and to implement the online fundraising directory. The Resource Center has more than 3,000 works and serves more than 8,400 requests annually.

Finally, $15,500 was granted through the AFP Research Council to individuals pursing research on fundraising and philanthropy to broaden knowledge and understanding of the profession.

AFP Foundation is in service to philanthropy. Together we make it happen!
