Ethical dilemmas can impact your fundraising bottom line. Join Janice Gow Pettey, author of “Ethical Fundraising: A Guide for Nonprofit Boards and Fundraisers” in a dialogue on fundraising dilemmas involving appearance of impropriety, conflicts of interest, privacy, honesty and full disclosure and more. Fundraisers, Executive Directors, and board members are encouraged to attend this essential audio conference on one of the hottest topics today – ethics.

About the Presenter:

[ Janice Gow Pettey ]  Janice Gow Pettey, CFRE, is the Principal of J.G. Pettey & Associates, a consulting firm serving foundations and nonprofits. She is an acknowledged authority on the topics of diversity and ethics and has presented to over 50 organizations nationally and internationally. Her award-winning book, Cultivating Diversity in Fundraising, was published by Wiley in 2001. J.G. Pettey & Associates works with a wide range of clients on board development, strategic planning, fundraising, and diversity initiatives.

She is the former CEO of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, which was one of the fastest growing community foundations in California during her tenure. Her lengthy nonprofit career also includes work with the American Red Cross, United Way, YMCA, and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce.

Janice is an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco (USF) where she teaches courses in fundraising, strategic planning and board governance. She also has teaching appointments at Cal State University East Bay, and The Fund Raising School housed at the Center on Philanthropy, Indiana University.

She serves on the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP) board and is the chair of AFP's Ethics Committee. She chaired the 2005 Think Tank on Ethics held in Washington DC in September 2005. Janice also led AFP's 2005 Diversity Summit held in Baltimore. In addition, she serves on the boards of the Graduate Theological Union (Berkeley, CA), San Francisco Public Library Foundation, USF's Institute for Nonprofit Management, and the Coalition of Community Foundations for Youth.

Janice is a graduate of Park University in Missouri. She earned her Masters in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. She also is a former Peace Corps volunteer, serving in Korea as a public health specialist.

  • Directions: Take the Harbor Freeway South (or North) and exit at Martin Luther King Boulevard heading east.  Drive 5 blocks to the intersection of Main Street and MLK (by the Shoe Warehouse).  TAS is at the southeast corner of the intersection.  Park in the large lot on the north side of MLK (you may need to drive around the block rather than cross the double line).  From the parking lot, go to the Main Entrance of TAS at 4000 S. Main.  Please check in at the office to be directed to the meeting site.

  • Members are invited to attend the Audio Conference at no charge.
