Luncheon Program - Noon to 1:30 p.m.

Promoting Philanthropy's Multicultural Transformation
Dr. Hanh Cao Yu
Vice President
Social Policy Research Associates

What does it mean for a foundation or an organization to become a “culturally competent” organization?  This question has been addressed through an institutional change framework developed by Social Policy Research Associates (SPR) in its work with several major foundations.  This framework focuses on sustainable institutional transformation based on shared vision for diversity work, an authorizing culture to support multiculturalism, and appropriate organizational policies, procedures and systems to implement diversity grantmaking principles and values.

Our guest, Dr. Hanh Cao Yu, will speak about The California Endowment’s newly released Foundation Diversity Policies and Practices Toolkit.  The Toolkit captures how foundations across the country address diversity within their institutions, providing innovative examples of policy statements and procedures that incorporate diversity into grantmaking and organizational practices.  The Toolkit was designed to offer foundations an opportunity to enhance dialogue and engagement around issues of diversity, equity, and social justice while integrating ideas into policy and practice.
