Chapter Meeting, Luncheon Speaker & Professional Development Seminar
10:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels
Luncheon Speaker
Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Leonard Aube,
Executive Director
The Annenberg Foundation
About the Speaker:
Leonard J. Aube is the
Executive Director of the Annenberg Foundation, one of the largest private
family foundations in the United States. He joined the foundation in
2003 as Managing Director, with a focus of assisting Wallis Annenberg to
establish a West Coast presence for the Foundation.
In his role as Executive Director,
Leonard has overseen the relocation of the Foundation’s headquarters to
Century City from Radnor, PA and provides leadership and support for the
professional staff and Board of Directors whose interests blend traditional
philanthropy with innovative approaches to addressing complex societal
challenges.
Since its inception, the Annenberg
Foundation has given nearly $4 billion in grants to thousands of nonprofits
in a wide range of program areas such as education, culture and arts; the
environment, animal welfare and nonprofit capacity building. In the
past five years more than $500 million has been directed to non-profits
serving the greater Los Angeles region.
Under the hands-on and active
stewardship of the Annenberg Directors (Wallis Annenberg, Lauren Bon,
Charles Annenberg Weingarten and Gregory Annenberg Weingarten) the Annenberg
Foundation has expanded its relationship with the communities it serves.
In addition to its conventional grant-making, place-based investment in
special projects and initiatives such as Not-A-Cornfield, the Annenberg
Space for Photography, Explore, the Annenberg Community Beach House,
Strawberry Flag, and the Companion Animal Center transcend the established
portrait of a family foundation.
Moreover, the Annenberg Foundation is
expanding access to its capacity building initiatives for Los Angeles-based
Executive Directors and Board Chairs with the creation of its newest
program, Alchemy (www.annenbergalchemy.org).
